Culture Note™

Designed by Peter Moore and released on 9 August 2021 as part of Nike's Dunk line. This release has a suede upper. The company behind this shoe did not begin as a shoemaker. In 1964, in Eugene, Oregon, track coach Bill Bowerman and his former runner Phil Knight founded Blue Ribbon Sports and sold Japanese Onitsuka Tiger running shoes out of the boot of Knight's car at track meets, because Bowerman thought American runners deserved something lighter than the domestic market offered. The Swoosh, drawn by design student Carolyn Davidson, was first used on 18 June 1971, and the Nike name, coined by employee Jeff Johnson, followed. Lot 37 sits inside a numbered Off-White series that treats that inheritance as raw material rather than as scripture. You are getting a Dunk Low presented as a catalogued specimen, one entry in a run, a familiar silhouette handed back to you with its filing number showing.
