Designed by Jason Petrie and released on 20 May 2022 as part of the LeBron 19 line. This release has a textile upper in Pearl White/University Gold. Nike built the modern signature shoe when it signed Michael Jordan in 1984 and turned one athlete into a business of its own. LeBron James is the line that inherited that structure, and the nineteenth model is the work of a company that has been designing around one player's body and game for two decades. Pearl White with University Gold is a deliberately regal colourway, the kind used for a player who has spent his career being described in those terms rather than for a team kit. It is a performance basketball shoe first, built for a heavy, powerful athlete generating enormous landing forces, and everything about the silhouette follows from that requirement.
Two uses. First, on court: indoor basketball, cushioned performance socks, laced tight through the midfoot and locked at the top eyelets so the ankle does not roll on a landing. Clean the outsole before every session, because dust ruins grip faster than anything else. Second, off court: black or grey technical trousers with a tapered hem, a plain hoodie, no competing logos, letting the white and gold do the talking. Basketball shoes fit true to slightly snug, so buy your usual size and check the heel does not lift. Wipe the upper after playing, keep pearl finishes away from abrasive cleaners, air the insole, and never dry them on a radiator.
LeBron James is a signature athlete and endorser for Nike, and his position in the company extends beyond product: he was one of the public voices supporting Nike when it built a long term campaign around Colin Kaepernick in September 2018, a decision that drew product burnings and condemnation from a police union alongside broad public support.
